The series stands for dynamic sitting and flexible applications - now, the Eco Up expands this concept with a sustainable approach, using innovative materials for conscious design
A stool that is not only comfortable and smart but also makes a clear statement about responsible design—this was the vision behind the Eco Up for Interstuhl.
The stool combines sustainable material innovation with thoughtful ergonomics and flexible usability. Developed as part of the UPis1 series, originally conceived by IDAID in 2016 and awarded numerous design prizes, it represents a consistent evolution with a focus on resource conservation and forward-thinking material choices.

The Eco Up is made of ARBOBLEND®, a bioplastic from technology partner Tecnaro, which is based on renewable raw materials. This material is produced without fossil CO₂ emissions by utilizing existing CO₂ in the cycle instead of releasing additional amounts. As a result, it creates an environmentally friendly alternative to fossil-based plastics.
Its versatility allows it to be combined with various natural materials and colors. For the Eco Up, ARBOBLEND® was deliberately mixed with wood flakes to create an organic, natural appearance. The fine wood particles give the surface a unique grain, making each piece one of a kind. At the same time, the material mix ensures a pleasant tactile feel and emphasizes the sustainable character of the product.

Movement promotes a healthy sitting posture, and the stool supports this with its rounded base, allowing small movements. The height adjustment is continuously variable via a textile loop, which is not only practical but also a distinctive design element. With just one movement, the stool can be individually adjusted to achieve an ergonomically correct sitting position. The pelvis remains mobile, and the spine is aligned, offering an intuitive solution for healthy sitting. The curved, non-slip base of the Eco Up is made from a combination of bio-based plastic and cork.

Modern workplaces are dynamic, and the Eco Up is designed to adapt. Weighing only 5.3 kg, it can be easily transported from room to room. An integrated carrying groove makes repositioning effortless, turning it into a versatile seating solution for spontaneous meetings, temporary workspaces, or the home office.
For added comfort, a seat cushion is available in five colors. The cover is made of SEQUAL® YARN, a sustainable fiber crafted from recycled ocean plastic, meeting the OEKO-TEX Standard 100. With this conscious material choice, Interstuhl reinforces its commitment to providing a sustainable solution both visually and functionally.

Sustainability is not a short-term goal at Interstuhl but a fundamental part of the company’s strategy. Since 2021, the company has been climate neutral, continuously reducing its ecological footprint - through methods such as photovoltaic systems, biogas utilization, and optimized logistics. The development of resource-efficient production methods is just as much a part of this commitment as the use of sustainable materials, as successfully demonstrated with the Eco Up.
